Market on Beckenham Green 26 May

At the Market on the Green on 26 May there will be a

“Novelty Dog Show”.

I think it’s the show that’s the novelty, not the dogs!
Why not take along your pooch?

The show lasts while the market is on – from midday to 4pm.

Beckenham High Street Improvements

Beckenham Improvements work update 30 April

Phase 4 works 116 to 180 High Street.

Completed works

  • Kerbing has continued to The Drive whilst the paving has almost been completed.
  • The wall outside Beckenham Junction station has been rebuilt.

The project team are aware that having to divert pedestrian access on to rough granite setts parking areas has been uncomfortable for some residents. However this has been necessitated by maintaining access to shops during opening hours.

Next week’s works.

  • Footway and kerbing to The Drive will be completed.
  • On Beckenham Green the entrance bollards will be removed and further temporary resurfacing will be laid in preparation of the final resurfacing.
  • Preliminary work starts outside Lidl and working towards the junction of Kelsey Square with The High Street.
  • Yellow parking restriction lines will be painted between WH Smith and Costa Coffee Shop to ensure sufficient road widths to maintain traffic flows.

Hours of Operation

In order to maintain access to all shop entrances pavement laying will have to be conducted out of normal hours between 6pm and 8pm on some days. We do understand that this can be a nuisance and FM Conway will endeavour to keep noise disturbance to a minimum during these times.

Traffic Management

From Monday the 30th of April there will be no left hand turns from Village Way onto the High Street and from Kelsey Square onto the High Street. The right hand turn from The Drive onto The High Street will also be restricted. All traffic will be sent on the main diversion along the High Street heading towards Beckenham junction then onto Rectory Road. This is likely to be in place until the end of the project to allow the contractor to work safely in those areas.

From Monday 14th of May the section of High Street between Bromley Road and Manor Road will revert back to two way traffic. At the same time there will be traffic changes to Burnhill Road and Kelsey Lane, residents in these affected roads will be letter dropped shortly with a further update.

Beckenham High Street Improvements Update

Beckenham Improvements work update 23 April 2018

Diversion of 352 Bus will now take place from the end of April

From the end of April, (exact date unknown yet) the High Street from Kelsey Square to the War Memorial will not be two way. This is to create sufficient safe space for the contractors to carry out works on the opposite side of the road. The 352 bus will therefore have to be diverted up the High Street and around Rectory Road.

Completed works

  • Kerbing has continued to The Drive whilst the paving has reached the Nationwide.
  • The tactile paving at Thornton’s Corner has been replaced but not yet cleaned.
  • The crossing point on the junction of The Drive has been slightly relocated and a ramp installed. This ramp although yellow has tarmac underneath to make it more rigid. The height of the existing kerb at this location is fairly low and should not be too steep for wheelchairs and pushchairs.

Thames Water has reported a water leak outside Superdrug. The repair will require new paving to be dug up by Thames Water and then reinstated. The Project team recognise the frustration this further disruption may cause however it is beyond their control.

The project team are aware that having to divert pedestrian access on to rough granite setts parking areas has been uncomfortable for some residents. However this has been necessitated by maintaining access to shops during opening hours.

Next week’s works.

  • Footway and kerbing will continue west to The Drive. This phase of works is anticipated to be complete by the 30th April 2018.
  • On Beckenham Green the entrance bollards will be removed and further temporary resurfacing will be laid in preparation of the final resurfacing.
  • The damage to the wall at Beckenham Junction station will be repaired by Tuesday.

Concert at St James Church Elmers End

Beckenham Improvements work update 16 April 2018

Diversion of 352 Bus will now take place from the end of April

From the end of April, (exact date unknown yet) the High Street from Kelsey Square to the War Memorial will not be two way. This is to create sufficient safe space for the contractors to carry out works on the opposite side of the road. The 352 bus will therefore be diverted up the High Street and around Rectory Road. It will stop at stop J in High Street near Manor Road and G in Rectory Road opposite the tram stop. It will not stop at C in High Street, outside M&S, to avoid overloading this stop. Stop R in High Street outside the old Risto restaurant and stop V in Rectory Road outside River Grove Park will be closed until the end of the works.

Works 116 to 180 High Street.

Completed works

  • Paving has continued south of the existing pedestrian crossing opposite Lidl with kerbing in advance reaching Santander at 212-214 High Street.
  • The entrance to Leather Alley has been excavated. It has been discovered that a large hole has appeared in the void at the entrance. Reinstatement was delayed whilst Thames Water investigated where their pipe was leaking. The reinstatement works will now be completed by Tuesday 17 April.
  • The pedestrian island in The Drive has been temporarily removed in anticipation of works to this corner to ensure there is sufficient space for vehicles, whilst providing a safe working environment for the contractors.
  • The existing small, on street compound has been moved to the parking bays outside 258 to 262 High Street. The bays will therefore be out of operation.

Next week’s works.

  • Footway and kerbing will continue south to The Drive. This phase of works is anticipated to be complete by the 30th April 2018 subject to construction complications or adverse weather.
  • Tactile paving is being continued to be re-laid at Thornton’s Corner. A high quality granite product has always been specified for this area to complement the granite paving. The concrete tactile paving was a temporary measure.

Hours of Operation

Pavements outside shops may have to be laid between 18.00 and 20.00 on some days
