Bakerloo Line Extension to stop at Lewisham

TfL have announced the results of its consultation on the extension of the Bakerloo Line to Lewisham, Hayes and Bromley.

The conclusion is that the line should be extended to Lewisham, via the Old Kent Road, and this could be completed by 2030.  See the report here.

It appears that although LB Bromley opposed the extension to Hayes and Bromley, many other Boroughs  actively lobbied for the line to be brought to their area, including Croydon, Streatham and Slade Green.

Tfl’s believe that an extension beyond Lewisham can provide specific benefits to wider rail capacity, by potentially converting the Hayes line and re-allocating rail services to other busy routes. They have therefore not ruled out a future extension beyond Lewisham. Network rail is doing further assessment of the “challenges and options” to improve National Rail services and TfL will provide support in assessing what role an extension beyond Lewisham has in the long term.

352 and 354 buses to run on Sundays from 20 September

Sunday service for 352 and 354

Sunday service for 352 and 354

Transport for London confirm that Bus Services 352 and 354 will start to run on Sundays from 20 September.

TfL received 630 responses to the consultation. There were 619 responses from members of the public and 11 responses from stakeholders. Thanks to all members who responded.

The Sunday service will run every 30 minutes on the full length of both routes 352 and 354. This will provide a new service on that day of the week for parts of Park Langley for route 352, and Ravensbourne for route 354, as well as links to the tram network around Beckenham and Birkbeck.  Stopping arrangements, including existing hail and ride sections would remain unchanged.

Bus Routes 352 and 354 – Sunday Running

We have asked frequently for Sunday Running of 354 and 352 bus services. Their contracts come up for renewal in early 2015. Together with CCARA, we have petitions for both services on CCARA’s website

The 352 bus runs from Bell Green Sainsbury’s in Sydenham to Bromley North Station, via Beckenham High Street. It travels between 3 retail destinations through the quieter residential roads of Northern Beckenham, Eden Park and West Wickham that are not served by any other means.  The 354  bus runs from Bromley North, Ravensbourne, Beckenham High Street, Copers Cope, Clock House, Birbeck, Anerley, Penge West through some quiter residential roads, and also serves Beckenham Crematorium which many people like to visit on Sundays.

Bakerloo Extension

See below for details of the proposed Bakerloo Line Extension. Beckenham has five stations affected by this proposal, four of them in the WBRA area.

At the Residents’ Forum on 15 October, the general feeling was against extension of the Bakerloo line to Hayes ad Beckenham Junction, with most people feeling that it should stop at Lewisham. Our mainline trains would then continue to operate as now.

WBRA and CCARA circulated a questionnaire  – please see CCARA’s website to record your own opinions for us to register the local view to Transport for London.
