Remembrance Day Parade Road Closures

The annual Remembrance Day Parade will close the High Street to traffic for a few hours on Sunday 11 November. While the Police do make efforts to publicise the closures and TfL are obviously made aware, there are always big road traffic problems as vehicles are unable to get anywhere near the High Street for a couple of hours

The Parade starts around 10am, so road closures will go in just before this, and roads remain closed probably up until midday-ish.

The closures cover the following roads:

Albemarle Road
St. Georges Road
High Street
Church Avenue
The Drive
The Crescent
Rectory Road

There will be no access to the War Memorial roundabout whatsoever, or the ends of the roads leading into it, ie Beckenham Road & Croydon Road.

Traffic will be held at Village Way, Manor Road, Bromley Road, and Southend Road. Buses will no doubt be on diversion but we have no details.

Beckenham High Street Improvements Update Bus Stop Closure

WBRA have complained to TfL about the lack of information and advance warning about bus stop closures. So it is good to have this warning of another closure at St George’s Church .

When resurfacing starts around the War Memorial, bus stops S (outside Mind) and T (outside Tesco) will be closed in the evening – probably from 8pm onwards. There may be more traffic diversions.
From LB Bromley and Conway
Work is nearing completion on the High Street, but local people have asked for a few additional pieces of work that were not in the original plans. The first of these is extending the new pavement along Bromley Road to outside the alms houses.

F M Conway will be carrying out this work in Bromley Road throughout the coming week beginning 15th October.

This work will consist of new kerbs and paving being laid in keeping with the scheme already completed in Bromley Road. It will commence from the end of the newly laid paving adjacent to St Georges Church and run along The Bromley Road and finish at the junction with St Georges Road.

To facilitate this phase of the work some traffic management will be in place. Bus Stop E just before the junction with St Georges Road will be temporarily closed. TfL will endeavour to relocate a temporary stop within a short distance of the stop.

Beckenham High Street Improvements

Work is progressing well and the end is in sight!

There are amazing scenes as the resurfacing work takes place over night between 17 and 21 September from The George to the War Memorial. Work is starting at 8pm and it must be very unpleasant for those living above the shops. But it is startling to see how quickly the large machines move along the Street.

Beckenham High Street Improvements Update 10 September

The High Street will be reopened to two way traffic and bus services will revert to normal from 24 September 2018. By the 24th the High Street will have been repaved on both sides of the road and resurfaced between Beckenham Junction and the High Street junction at the War Memorial roundabout,.

FM Conway will continue with

  • The installation of street furniture and cycle stands.
  • Timber seating on the Fairfield Road granite bus stop blocks.
  • General snagging of defects.

  • The footpaths in front of the shops will be completed by the end of the week.

Road resurfacing – week beginning the 17th September.

During the week beginning the 17th September the High Street will be resurfaced between the War Memorial roundabout and The George Public House where the new surfacing has already been completed up to. These works are anticipated to take 4 nights.

Beckenham High Street Improvements Update 20 August

The last update until 10 September due to holidays.
Village Way Junction

This section is now complete. Over the next few days the site will be cleared.  The compounds between Kelsey Square and Village Way will be removed and parking will be reinstated.

The Drive to Wimpy

Work is in progress along this section. Most of the kerbs have been installed and much of the drainage.

• TFL will be re commissioning the crossing during the early part of next week.

• The footpath works along this section will commence on Monday 20th August.

• The bus stop o/s Wimpy will be closed next week and a temporary stop will be installed closer to the Nationwide.

Regal Alley to Roundabout

• Excavating work is in progress to install the new buildout of the kerb line at this point.

• The laying of new drainage pipes will be underway shortly

• The construction of the parking bays to follow.

• Please note that pedestrians will be required to walk on the parking bays to enable the construction of the footpath to take place. This can be uncomfortable due to the raised surface of the paving, but to facilitate a safe walkway for pedestrians, away from the highway, this is considered the only option. We apologise for the inconvenience.

• Work immediately outside of The Odeon is still ongoing.

• Due to design changes on this section, it may mean that a small section in line with The Odeon steps will be completed later, but certainly before the end of September.

• Work on The Odeon car park is still in progress

• 4 tree pits have been completed
