Advance notice of major road works to replace the gas main along Croydon Road at the junction with Elmers End Road. There have been a lot of road works connected with the gas main over the last year or so. But the leaks continue so they are going to replace the main.
The first phase 22 July to around 5 August will close the eastbound carriageway at the lights at the junction of Elmers End Road and Croydon Road – the straight ahead lanes going down to one lane past the lights towards The Green. Traffic from Croydon will use the left filter lane into Elmers End Rd and be diverted towards Aldi at the “other” Croydon Rd. Traffic from Elmers End Rd ill have to turn left and go round the Green to get to Croydon. Traffic on Elmers End Road wanting to go to Croydon will have to go left and round the Green – that westbound carriageway of Corydon Road will be unaffected.
The second phase (due 5 August to 26 August ) will close the road from the traffic lights towards the Green. So traffic from Croydon will still have to turn left into Elmers End Road. Traffic from Elmers End Road will not be able to turn left into Croydon Road towards the Green. This traffic will have to go to the Tesco roundabout and back to Elmers End Road , then back to Aldi at Croydon Rd Penge.
The third stage (2 September to 16 September) is closure of the right hand lane at Elmerside, the one running alongside The Green near the houses from Upper Elmers End Road to Croydon Road. Traffic will not be able to turn right towards Beckenham.
All during this work, the west bound carriageway from the Green towards Croydon will be open and traffic will be able to turn right into Elmers End Road. For the first two stages 22 July to 26 August there will be temporary traffic lights at the junction of Elmers End Road and Croydon Road.
Information on bus diversions will follow as soon as they are confirmed by TfL.
