Closure of Beckenham Crown Post Office “Consultation”

“Customer Forum” Event

Tues 10 May 2016 – drop in between 4pm to 7pm at Beckenham Methodist Church, Bromley Road, Beckenham BR3 5JE

The Post Office proposes to proceed with the closure of the Crown Post Office on Beckenham Road at the War Memorial and franchise the service to WH Smith at 172 High Street, Beckenham.

The Post Office have made it clear in their (very late) so called consultation letter that they are NOT actually consulting local people on franchising the services to WH Smith… but they are holding an open “customer forum” event on 10 May where we may possibly be able to say what we think of the proposed new premises.

The Beckenham branch of WH Smith is small and crowded, local people and businesses will likely receive an inferior service with fewer staff, fewer counters and less space. As we all know the present Post Office is very busy, often with queues out of the door. Can W H Smith cope?

Once franchised out, Post Office Ltd will have limited control. WH Smith can choose to stop providing certain services such as passport and DVLA services.  If WH Smith moves out of the High Street, in a few years Beckenham could be left without a Post Office.
