The Beckenham Academy trust “E21c” (Education for the 21st Century) has purchased the former Co op Sports Ground in Balmoral Avenue for development as a secondary school in 2016
E21c already runs two primary schools and a secondary school in the area. This new school would eventually to take up to 1100 pupils. Neighbouring residents are concerned about the damaging effects of this proposal in the area, particularly on traffic at peak school times in narrow residential roads, and the loss of Urban Open Space of this previous Co-op sports club and bowling green. The academy may also want to take land from the rugby club. A planning application has not yet been made.
