On 2 January, Pauline and Daniel held their final session at the William IV pub at Elmers End.
It seems incredible that they have been there for only 6 years. They made such a difference with their live music and jam sessions, bingo, pool, and even “psychic nights”. We wish them all the best for their future and thank them for their support for local campaigns. As far as we know, the pub is to be closed for 6 weeks for refurbishment and should be re-opened with more emphasis on food. WBRA supported Camra’s successful application to list the William IV as an Asset of Community Value, which means that if the owners want to sell it for other uses, they must first allow other bids to be made to keep it as a pub. For at least 6 weeks, the only pub in the Elmers End area will be Grace’s on the corner of Elmers End Road and Witham Road, since first the Elmer Lodge on Dunbar Avenue and then the Rising Sun on Upper Elmers End Road closed in recent years.
